Hala Ranch - The Hala Ranch estate north of Aspen, Colorado was one of the most expensive houses ever to hit the market in the United States when it was purchased in 2006 for 102.5 million euros by Saudi Prince Bandar bin Sultan. The 5200 square metre home was built in 1991 and features its own wastewater treatment plant, mechanical shop, gasoline pumps and car wash. In June 2012, billionaire John Paulson purchased the estate for 37.2 million euros.
Antilla - At 759.8 million euros, Antilla is the world's first billion-dollar home and sits on top of a six-story parking garage. There are nine elevators and a four-story open garden. It is highly unlikely that this one will be topped anytime soon.
Villa Leopolda - Built in 1902 by King Leopold II of Belgium, the famous French Riviera villa was reportedly purchased for 559 million euros by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. La Leopolda was used as a set in the 1955 Alfred Hitchcock film "To Catch a Thief".
Fairfield Pond - At a value of 150 million euros and property taxes of 303 000 euros, the sprawling Fairfield Pond estate is considered the largest occupied residential compound in the United States. With 29 bedrooms, 39 bathrooms, 0.26 square kilometres and two tennis courts, it is no surprise that the house also has a 113 000 euro hot tub.
The Hearst Mansion - If there is any home with the coolest pop culture cred, it is the Hearst Mansion, also known as Hearst Castle, which is valued at 125 million euros. The estate features three swimming pools, 29 bedrooms, movie theatre and a disco hall.
The Pinnacle - Tim Blixseth's 117.6 million euro house is practically in the backyard of the neighboring ski resort he owns. The Pinnacle in Montana has a private chair lift that connects the house to the resort.
Fleur de Lys - With 3809 square metres and 15 bedrooms, the Fleur de Lys was on the market in 2008 for 95 million euros. The home was built by Texan billionaire David Saperstine and was inspired by the Vaux le Vicomte palace outside Paris.
Silicon Valley mansion - At 75.9 million euros, this French chateau-style mansion in Los Altos Hills in California is now the home of Yuri Milner, the billionaire founder of Moscow-based venture capital firm Digital Sky Technologies. The estate has panoramic views of San Francisco Bay and 44 515 square meters of land.
Maison de l'Amitie - This single family home was the most expensive home ever fought over in a divorce case, which was Donald Trump's divorce case. The home has 18 bedrooms and 22 bathrooms. After being on the market for 94.9 million euros, the estate was finally sold for 72.1 million euros.
